I had the opportunity to check out the relatively new rooftop bar Salon De Ning. This summer has seen quite a few of these locales popping up in the city. This is the 3rd rooftop bar I’ve visited, the first being Highbar and the second Eden.
Getting into Salon De Ning seems daunting at first, there was a line of about 60 people waiting to get into the Peninsula Hotel and it was composed of your typical stockbroker type. My girl and I walked into the hotel and proceeded to head to the elevator. No luck, we waited on a line for the elevator while more connected folk were ushered in and headed to the roof.
After ten minutes we were on our way to check out the hype. The interior is rich and well furnished, but very cramped. It didn’t help that two thirds of the venue were off limits to little people such as myself and we had to content our selves to the bar and the balcony. The balcony has a nice view of Central Park even though it was standing room only. You literally have space for a chair and legroom, its a tight squeeze and with so much space cordoned off everyone wanted to try and check out the view.
The staff was relatively helpful and Fernando the bartender was pleasant and wasn’t afraid to use the top shelf liquor when making drinks, well for $22 a drink he had better. Overall Salon De Ning is cool, and would be a great spot to chill if everyone didn’t have the same idea as me.
